It’s surprising that as you’re setting your mind on the Word of God in order to resist a temptation, you won’t really feel the effect of it immediately in the sense of calming down that raging desire found within.
Instead, you’ll find yourself in a deep struggle trying to get a hold of that temptation. Why? The reason it is very challenging to cope with temptation connected to habitual sin is because this type of temptation tends to be very intense and pervasive.
By the way, temptation is intense pressure applied on your flesh. So you can feel the pressure intensifies as you’re going through it, which might lead to desperation.
That’s why we tend to give in because of falsely believing that there’s no way we can continue our resistance against that sin.
But the willingness to resist temptation starts in your spirit in accordance with the level of truth of the Word of God that you know.
So the power of God will flow through that provision that you possess within your spirit, which is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
Then that willingness will travel from your spirit to your soul which is the very element in which you make decisions.
Then the body has to be subjected to the truth found within your spirit. It’s of course the most difficult thing to do since you have an out of control beast within which is your sinful nature.
But the thing is that you have also something within that doesn’t want you to continue to follow that deadly path, so you just have to allow it to take over in order to subdue that sinful desire.
You have to stay calm, be patient, and be faithful to God that He will eventually bring you out of it.
Don’t be surprised if your situation seems to be getting worse while having the willingness to resist it.
The body which can be referred to your flesh is like a strong dog on a leash. So the other part of that leash is in your hand.
When that dog is provoked to either get in a fight or chase somebody, it will try to pull you from every direction to break away, but you just have to hold unto the leash very tight in order to hold him back.
