Psalm 6,
Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
Have mercy on me, be gracious unto me, Lord God, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.
My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long?
Turn, Lord, and deliver me from my carnal and selfish self; save me because of your unfailing love.
Among the dead, no one proclaims your name. Who praises You from the grave?
Nobody!
I am worn out from my groaning due to my rebellion against you. All night long, I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.
Away from me, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping.
The Lord has heard my cry for grace and mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.
All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish; they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.
Amen.
Psalm 25,
In You alone, Lord my God, I put my trust.
I trust in You; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.
No one who hopes in You will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Empower me to obey You.
Guide me in your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior and Lord, and my hope is in You all day long.
Remember, Lord, Your great mercy, grace, compassion, and love, for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to Your love remember me, for You, Lord, are good.
Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He instructs sinners in His ways.
He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.
All the ways of the Lord are true, loving, and faithful toward those who keep the demands of His covenant.
For the sake of Your glorious name, Lord, forgive my iniquities and transgressions, though they are great and many.
Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.
They will spend their days in prosperity, and their descendants will inherit the land.
The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them.
My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only He will release my feet from the snare of sin.
Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.
Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.
See how numerous are my enemies and how fiercely they hate me!
Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in You.
May Your integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in You.
Deliver Israel, O God, from all their troubles!
Amen.
Psalm 32,
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered and washed away by the blood of the Lamb.
Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
For day and night, Your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave the guilt of my sin weighing me down.
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them.
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in Him.
Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
Psalm 38,
Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.
Your arrows have pierced me, and Your hand of discipline has come down on me.
Because of Your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of the misery of my sin.
My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.
I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.
My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body due to my wickedness.
I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
All my longings lie open before You, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from You.
My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes.
My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.
Those who want to kill me set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they scheme and lie.
I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, like the mute, who cannot speak; I have become like one who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.
Lord, I wait for You; You will answer, Lord my God.
For I said, “Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip.”
For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
I confess my transgression and iniquity; I am deeply troubled by my sin Lord.
Many have become my enemies without cause; those who hate me without reason are numerous.
Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good.
Lord, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God.
Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.
Psalm 51,
Have mercy on me, be gracious unto me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight; so You are right in Your verdict and justified when You judge.
Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
Yet You desired faithfulness even in the womb; You taught me wisdom in that secret place.
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, so that sinners will turn back to You.
Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of Your righteousness.
Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare Your praise.
You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart You, God, will not despise.
May it please You to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.
Then You will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.
Psalm 103,
Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
He made known His ways to Moses, His deeds to the people of Israel:
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse, nor will He harbor His anger forever; He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion on His children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him; for He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are dust.
The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
But from everlasting to everlasting, the Lord’s love is with those who fear Him, and His righteousness with their children’s children—with those who keep His covenant and remember to obey His precepts.
The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.
Praise the Lord, you His angels, you mighty ones who do His bidding, who obey His Word.
Praise the Lord, all His heavenly hosts, you His servants who do His will.
Praise the Lord, all His works everywhere in His dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.
Psalm 130,
Out of the depths, I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my voice.
Let Your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
If You, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?
Nobody!
But with You there is forgiveness of all types of sins, so that we can, with reverence, serve You.
I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His Word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.
He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.
Psalm 143,
Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in Your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief.
Do not bring Your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before You.
The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead.
So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed.
I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all Your works and consider what Your hands have done.
I spread out my hands to You; I thirst for You like a parched land.
Answer me quickly, Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide Your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You.
Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life.
Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in You.
Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
For Your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life; in Your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.
In Your unfailing love, have mercy for my human enemies; forgive all my foes, for I am Your servant Lord.
