It’s impossible to appreciate your position of victory in Christ until you know how He won His victory over your three great enemies which are the world, the flesh, and the devil.
The three greatest antagonists to the child of God are the world, the flesh, and the Devil. Sadly, Christians try to fight these enemies on their own, only to experience continual discouragement and failure.
Three words summarize Christ acquisition of authority for Himself and us. They are crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. Thankfully, we actually went through these three events that took place in Him.
When Christ was hung on the cross with our sins on Him, He was not only bearing our sin and its consequences of death, but we were actually hanging there on the cross with Him.
This complete union with Christ is the incredible truth Paul wants us to fathom in the sixth chapter of Romans also in the book of Ephesians when God poured out His wrath and judgment upon our sins, He not only judged Christ with the guilt of our sins, but He judged us when Christ experienced the final sting of sin which is death, we died too.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me (Galatians 2:20).
Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin (Romans 6:3-7).
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God (1 Peter 4:1-2).
Satan and his acolytes observed the greatest display of power ever unleashed from the hand of Almighty God. The Son of God was resurrected from the dead, and so are we. The defeat of Satan was sealed. With the resurrection of Christ, Satan forever lost his authority over Christ’s humanity and everyone who claims union with Him.
When the Father through Jesus stripped Satan and his demons of their authority and dominion, that victory was ours. Jesus is Satan’s conquerors, so are those who are in Christ. Satan knows that he has no legal right to any ground in the life of the believer, so his ultimate goal is to keep those who are in Christ ignorant about who they truly are.
The culmination of God’s whole redemptive plan was to place Christ on the throne at His right hand; therefore, forever putting Christ’s enemies under His feet. Any enemy of Christ is an enemy of ours. As a result, anyone puts under Christ’s feet is put under our feet because we are in Him.
Jesus is now seated on His throne in heaven at the right hand of God. The center of the greatest power, authority, and dominion in the whole universe. We are seated there with Him. He has delegated to us the use of the same authority He has and the power to use it over mutual enemies while we are here on earth.
Jesus’ Dominion
Then the end will come, when Jesus Christ hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.
For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For He “has put everything under His feet.”
Now when it says that “everything” has been put under Him, it is clear that this does not include God Himself, who put everything under Christ.
When He has done this, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put everything under Him, so that God may be all in all (1 Corinthians 15:24-28).
