Jesus was One with the Father in nature, essence, character, and purpose before the angels were created. The Father worked by, with, or through His Son in the creation of all heavenly beings.
When the Father took thought to create all things, His Son known as the Word of God spoke a Word, so that the angels were also created by the will of the Son and the consent of the Father. Jesus spoke the Word, the angels were formed.
Lucifer himself confessed through a testimony that Jesus is his creator. Whatever He says He will do. He will surely do it because His Word has never changed.
The great Creator of the universe assembled the heavenly host, that He might in the presence of all the angels confer special honor upon His beloved Son. The Son was seated on the throne with the Father, and the heavenly throng of holy angels was gathered around them.
The Father then made known that it was ordained by Himself that Christ, His Son, should be equal with Himself; so that wherever was the presence of His Son, it was as His own presence. The Word of the Son was to be obeyed as readily as the Word of the Father.
He has invested in His Son all authority to command the heavenly hosts. Especially, was His Son to work in union with Himself in the anticipated creation of the earth and every living thing that should exist upon the earth.
And His Son would carry out His will and purpose. The Father underlined that the Son would do nothing of Himself alone. The Father’s will would be fulfilled through Him. He endowed the Son with such unlimited power and command to reign over everything.
Although Lucifer was envious and jealous of the Word of God, yet but when all the angels bowed to Jesus to acknowledge His supremacy and high authority, and rightful rule, Lucifer also bowed with them.
But in his heart, he was filled with envy and hatred. Jesus was acknowledged as sovereign of heaven. His power and authority were regarded to be the same as that of the Father Himself.
The LORD Jesus Christ is of equal position, honor, power, and authority with God the Father.
The Universe
There was a time when our material and spiritual universe did not exist. It had a definite beginning. But before that, God was. In fact, God is-because time itself was created by God.
Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the first-born (the priority One) of all creation; for in Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities (these words in Greek refer to the hierarchical angelic powers)-all things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:15-17).
The Holy Spirit, in giving us this inspired passage of Scripture, explains that all things (both visible and invisible) in the entire universe were created through this same Jesus, the eternal Word.
We may think of the universe and its intricate design as being conceived in the mind of the Father, then spoken into existence by the Son (who makes both the invisible and visible).
The Holy Spirit is the One who energizes and supplies life to the creation, not only at the time of creation but also moment by moment after that.
If God “sustains the universe by His mighty Word of power,” moment by moment, were He to merely relax His grasp on the universe, every atom would come apart “by fire” (that is, by nuclear fire).
It is inescapable that the Bible claims that God dynamically sustains the universe, including the very atoms themselves.
Atoms, it would seem, are “stable” only because force and energy are being supplied into their physical nuclear binding fields from “outside” the system.
Jesus Holding All Things Together
The eternal Son not only created all things by His omnipotent Word (Psalm 33:6; Hebrews 11:3) but is now “upholding all things by the Word of His power.”
Note the remarkable relationship here between “things” and “power,” or in modern scientific jargon, between mass and energy.
The atomic structure of our very bodies is being held together (or “sustained”—see note on Colossians 1:17) by mysterious nuclear forces or binding energies that keep the atoms from disintegrating into chaos.
Scientists do not yet understand such energies or their origin—they merely name them!
The fact is that we (and all things) are being upheld by the out-radiating energy of the Son of God, so that He is “not far from every one of us” (Acts 17:27), whether we believe in Him or not.
“Where the word of a King is, there is power: and who may say unto Him, What are you doing?” (Ecclesiastes 8:4).
This passage in Hebrews 1:2-3—like Colossians 1:14-20 and Romans 11:36—beautifully summarizes the past, present, and future work of Christ in relation to the whole universe.
———- Note ———-
Through Christ Jesus, believers have authority over Satan and his acolytes who are the source of evil.
Therefore, believers have authority over all evil things.
